Amritsari Fish

Amritsari fish is a popular North Indian appetizer. Amritsar is a city in Punjab popular for its street food. Fish (sole, tilapia, salmon, kingfish etc) are coated with spices and then deep fried until crispy. It can be served as an appetizer with a sprinkling of chaat masala, green chutney and onion or as a side dish with rice, dal.

  • 600gm King Fish cut into fingers
  • 1 Cup Gram Flour
  • 1 Tablespoon Thillai’s Guntur Chilli Powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 Teaspoon Carom seeds
  • 2 Tablespoons Ginger paste
  • 2 Tablespoons Garlic paste
  • 1 Tablespoon Lemon juice
  • Oil to deep fry
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 Spring curry leaves
  • 1 Onion
  • 1 Teaspoon Chaat Masala
  • 2 Lemons cut into wedges

Preparation Method For Amritsari Fish

  1. In a bowl add 600gm king fish fingers, 1 tablespoon Thillai’s Guntur Chilli Powder, salt, 1 teaspoon carom seeds, 2 tablespoon ginger paste, 2 tablespoon garlic paste, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 1 cup gram flour, 1 egg and mix well. Set aside.
  2. Heat sufficient oil in a kadai.
  3. Add the fish fingers little by little in a kadai and deep fry till golden color and crispy.
  4. Continue the process till all the fishes are fried and cooked.
  5. Drain and place on an absorbent paper. Serve hot, sprinkled with 1 teaspoon chaat masala and 2 lemon wedges.
  6. Garnish with 1 onion rings and 1 spring curry leaves.
  7. Serve hot Amritsari Fish with a chutney of your choice.
