Ingredients
- Any vegetables of your choice
- Onion shallots – 10 to 20
- Tomato-2 nos
- Soak 1 gooseberry size tamarind and extract pulp from it
- For tempering
- Mustard
- Fenugreek
- Curry leaves
- Masala for tiffen sambar
- Kadala parupu- 2 tbs
- Dhaniya- 2tbs
- Jeera- 1/2 tbs
- Peppercorns- 1/2 tbs
- Grated coconut – 1 tbs
Preparation Method:

- Dry roast all the ingredients. Mild roast the grated coconut at last and cool everything
- Grind into fine powder and keep aside
- Coom 3/4 cup of thuvar dhal and 1/4 cup of moonh dhal together for 4 whistles and mash it completely
- Add oil in a pan
- Add mustard and let it sputter
- Add fenugreek seeds and curry leaves
- Add the onion shallots, tomato and cook them
- You can add the vegetables now and cook it with covered lid or pressure cook along with dhal mixture
- Once it is cooked add the extracted tamarind pulp and cook till the raw smell goes
- Add the grounded masala powder and required salt
- Cook for 10 minutes
- Add the mashed dhal and cover the lid with stove in simmer for 10 mins
- Garnish with coriander leaves
Now tasty Sambar idli is ready to serve.
